Welcome to Northside Christian High School

The academics at Northside Christian High School are rigorous, designed to prepare students for success at the college of their choice. We emphasize teaching students to think critically, analyze information, develop evidence-based arguments, and effectively present their viewpoints. Our Academic Advisor and Guidance Counselor offer valuable support to students and parents, providing guidance on college options and the admissions process. Throughout the year, representatives from various colleges and universities visit our campus to meet with students. To further support academic success, we offer four levels of learning tailored to different needs.

Above all, our primary goal is to guide students in seeking the Kingdom of God and glorifying Him in all they do. We stand by Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Our mission is not only to cultivate Christ-like character in our students but also to teach them how to apply scripture to their everyday lives.

AP Academy

The NCS AP (Advanced Placement) Academy is a four-year program designed to meet the needs of the academically talented high school student. The program is very challenging as it combines dual enrollment and advanced placement courses into a single, mandatory curriculum.  Students must be highly motivated and parents should be aware of the higher expectations placed upon the student.

Students earning an “A” in an Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment Course receive a weighted GPA of 5.0.

Eligibility Criteria

  • IQ of 120 or more as determined by official testing
  • Achievement scores at or above the 90th in all core academic areas
  • Completion of Algebra I by the end of 8th grade
  • Yearly or semester grades of 3.5 or higher in core academic courses
  • Teacher recommendations by three core academic teachers (English, Math, Science or Social Studies)
  • Personal qualities of leadership potential, spirituality and good character (evidenced in teacher recommendations and discipline record)

Honors Program

The Honors program is our most popular program due to its flexibility. If qualified, students are welcome to take an occasional Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment course, but these courses are not mandatory in all core subject areas like the AP Academy.

An Honor student has more freedom in their schedule for electives. Like the AP Academy, students must be recommended for an Honors class because they move at a faster pace and require more individual work than a traditional class. Students earning an “A” in an Honors class receive a weighted GPA of 4.5.

Graduate Program

The Graduate program consists of grade level classes, all of which are designed to equip our students to succeed in a college environment. Like the Honors program, the Graduate program is a la carte – meaning students can take an Honors English class (if recommended) a graduate level Science or Social Studies Class and a Praxis class for math, if needed. Students earning an “A” in a Graduate class receive a 4.0 GPA. Graduate classes are not weighted.

Praxis Program

The Praxis program is designed for students with learning challenges.  Some of these students may have diagnosed learning disabilities, such as visual and auditory processing, dysgraphia, or ADHD, to name a few.  Students may apply for full-time Praxis classes, or they may sign up for individual Praxis classes, depending on “the right fit.”

Accommodations are provided to Praxis students, dependent upon individual IEPs or 504 plans. Students in this program receive a traditional high school diploma, as curriculum mimics regular classes, however class size, pace, and style of instruction may be adjusted to fit individual needs. Many in this program choose a college path upon graduation.
